Elaine, I might not have responded to you using the correct comment box before. Still getting used to this site.

Hey Elaine,

That's great you're doing Rocky Gap!! You'll love it and the mountain biking isn't too technical. When the weather gets better (drier or colder) you'll have to join us for some training rides. We ride most weekends and hit the usual local places.

I haven't done any Backyard Burns yet. I signed up for Columbia this June and will have to do some racing to get in shape for it. Are you doing the whole series or just a few?

One reason I'm laughing - ooh it's hurts to laugh - about the stretching is I'm just off a plane from Italy and France where I did a ton of skiing (plus a couple late nights at the end) and I realize I should have been stretching more. So cheers to stretching. BTW, I'm a big fan of yoga too. It helps you relax, stretch and strengthen. ;)
Ommm,

Good call, Elaine (keeping Graston in mind for other/old injuries), since my experience has been that Graston can fix some things that A.R.T. can't and vice versa - they really complement each other. My practitioner does both and is Andy Smith (http://www.modernathletes.com/profile/AndySmithDC).

Got it, Elaine. Just keep in the back of your mind that, like A.R.T., Graston is a powerful tool in the toolset and Andy Smith practices it very well. Also, I'll have to let Mike Dietrich know about your success with A.R.T. for ITBS since he's still trying to figure out whether that's what he has.

Great, Elaine, I'll look forward to it! One question, did your A.R.T. practitioner use Graston Technique, too? If not, M.A.N. Member Andy Smith uses both - and I can tell you that the combination of A.R.T. & Graston is much more powerful than either alone (I understand that many of the best A.R.T. practitioners are getting certified in Graston). Maybe it will take your IT Band to 100%.

Elaine,

Are you planning to do the Xterra offroad tri? I've been doing the one at Rocky Gap, MD for the past few years and can recommend it. Hope to see you there in July!

Best,
Mike

p.s. I have to say that reading your stretching routine makes me feel a bit guilty. Good for you that you take it so seriously.

Elaine, welcome to the Modern Athlete Network! You're like the poster child for this Network! You combine so many of its key elements: adventure sports, fitness, nutrition, A.R.T., your profession as a personal trainer, etc., etc., etc. You even have an injury that Mike Dietrich, one of our Members has been struggling with (ITBS) and getting treatment from A.R.T./Graston practitioner and M.A.N. Member Andy Smith (in fact, this week may be the week he confirms it's not ITBS, afterall, but something masking as it.

I hope you'll check out my blog entry about Fibrosis, why it's such a problem and how A.R.T. & Graston can get rid of it. I also hope you'll make a forum entry about your A.R.T. treatment and practitioner in the A.R.T./Graston Testimonial Discussion Forum I started (I've had amazing success with Andy Smith).

So, I hope you'll join the dialogue and I hope to see you here! Feel free to create your own Group within M.A.N. and please spread the word.

Thanks!
Adam

Lots of high-end aerobic (around 80% of max) during tempo runs and cross-training (e.g., cardio kickboxing) to increase VO2max - this seems to be the most useful with respect to my asthma in increasing the speed I can maintain during endurance events.

What is a Hostel ?

This is my first blog post and i would enjoy to write a few sentences about hostels. Hostels are a magnificent method to see the world on a budget. From the cheapest to the more grand there is something to accommodate every preference and budget. The important thing about hostels is that tons of university students flock to them as they are cheap and enjoyable so there is all the time lots of student travelers around to party with!

In generally every other… Continue

Plastic Shards and Cigarette Butts A Dangerous Diet
